How the Noble Path Began

When I was introduced to beekeeping, it was as if a missing piece of my life fell into place. I said ‘yes’ to every opportunity presented, and the opportunities kept coming. I enjoyed a wide variety of gifts, camaraderie, and experiences. Working with bees felt right.

And, despite being embraced by the beekeeping community, my discussions with other keepers seemed to focus on practical skills without a nod towards the intimacy of experience. I sought more than how-to’s and facts. I wanted to discuss how amazing it is to be with these wild creatures. I wanted a relational approach to working with bees; one that encouraged self-reflection and so-called ‘soft skills’ such as the ability to observe, listen, and celebrate moments of communion.

These are often qualities ascribed to women, and although I know many men who have these qualities and skills in spades, there was a notable lack of discussion about the more yin, pensive, quiet qualities of beekeeping. I felt that was missing. While I LOVED the technical learning, the research, and the wisdom shared by elder beekeepers, I was left wanting a more soulful connection.

Noble Path Apiary was born from the need for a softer approach to working with bees, one that elevates the voices of people like me who want to highlight a mindful relationship with bees in addition to sharing best practices, research and tips.

What’s In a Name?
The three key references in “Noble Path Apiary.”

  1. The Eightfold Noble Path is the central structure of Buddhist philosophy (my spiritual practice).

  2. Bees have absolutely AMAZING wayfinding skills. They carve paths in the air as they forage for pollen, nectar and water, seek new shelters for their hives, swarm and mate. They also create amazing pathways inside their hives, tailor made for their unique airflow and movement needs.

  3. Something noble brought beekeeping into my life and put me on this path.

Noble Path Apiary is owned and operated by Amy Green.
